March 17 - Greatness

Isaiah 40 gives us examples of God's greatness. Verse 12 says that God measures the waters in the hollow of his hand. This is talking about all the earth's water in his hand. God is HUGE! He is so great he created this world, including you and I. He cares for his creation. If he can hold and measure the earth's water in his hand, think about how he can care for all of his people. Nothing is impossible with God.

In verse 12, we find God weighing the mountains on scales. God is so big and so strong that he is fully capable of weighing mountains on scales. I can't even pick up a 100 pound rock without hurting. If he is strong enough to move and weigh mountains, think about what he can do with our "big" problems. Nothing is impossible with God. This verse confuses me though...

Why would God need to weigh the mountains? He should already know the weight and dimension of each and every peak. Truth is, he does know. In verse 13, the question is posed: Who understands the mind of the Lord? The answer: nobody. Nobody ever had to teach God anything, because he is so wise. God is and sets the standard of our understanding. He's not just the wisest of all, he is the source of our wisdom. Nothing is impossible with God.

God is the source of strength and wisdom. He is the source of love and life. God is in a league of his own, because there is in fact, no one like him.

No other man was able to heal the blind, cleanse a leper, raise the dead, to be born of a virgin, teach elders and other "wise" men while at the age of 12 years old, and he died. Not only did he die, (many men have died), but when he died he rose again, because death can't grip a sinner. Christ never sinned, therefore he was able to rise from the dead...unlike any man. There is nobody like our God...
