March 07 - Authority

Colossians 1:15-18

15 He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. 16 For by him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things were created by him and for him. 17 He is before all things, and in him all things hold together. 18 And he is the head of the body, the church; he is the beginning and the firstborn from among the dead, so that in everything he might have the supremacy.

Some people do not understand how we as Christians can serve and love a God that we cannot see. It is hard to grasp and understand how we could be so devoted to an invisible God. In Colossians, it is clearly said that Christ is the image of the invisible God. That's the God that created this world. He created heaven, hell, Adam and Eve, animals, plant life, the sun, everything. When we worship God, we are worshiping Christ and vice versa. Jesus was not made up or fictional. His life in the flesh was very real and is real to this very second. God sent Christ to the earth to live out his life to present physical evidence of his existence. No one on earth has priority or authority over Jesus Christ. He has ultimate and full control over everything.

In verse 17, it is said that he holds all things together. I love this part of this passage, because I know that Christ will return for his people. When he does, he is going to rip the sky wide open and drop non-believers to their knees. The invisible God that so many people deny and laugh about will make himself visible for the second and final time. The Lord is supreme and well deserving of our full devotion. Christ is the head of the church. That's not the church of Corinth, First Baptist of Townville, or the bible study that is held on Tuesday nights. Christ is the head of his people. His people make up the church, no matter what congregation we are from. We are to live for him and work together to bring glory to God.

It's up to us to make God's love visible everyday until he returns...
