February 26 - Opposition

Beginning of week 9 (9 minute run - 9 push ups - 9 sit ups).

2 Timothy 2:24-26

24 And the Lord's servant must not quarrel; instead, he must be kind to everyone, able to teach, not resentful. 25 Those who oppose him he must gently instruct, in the hope that God will grant them repentance leading them to a knowledge of the truth, 26 and that they will come to their senses and escape from the trap of the devil, who has taken them captive to do his will.

As Christians, when faced with opposition, we are instructed and encouraged to approach the opposition with kindness and gentleness. Christ never abusively attacked others physically or verbally in order to get his point across. We may not like it when someone says our God isn't real. We may hurt when someone says Christ wasn't really the Son of God. It may burn our cookies when someone says the Bible is nonsense...but, we must discipline ourselves to approach them with not only courage, but gentleness as well.

If we try to get our point across through yelling, pushing, shoving, and aggressiveness then our witness is shot and the door between you and that person is closed. The past few days, I have been dealing with some opposition and at times, it is difficult not to let anger take over. As I posted a couple of weeks ago though, in 1 Peter 2:23 Christ made no threats and did not retaliate when the people hurled insults at him. He entrusted himself to God, who judges justly. The same is true for us...

Don't let your light be dimmed by darkness...
