No exercise today since it is Sunday. Tomorrow, I will continue into week six.
Proverbs 12:16,18
16 A fool shows his annoyance at once, but a prudent man overlooks an insult.
18 Reckless word pierce like a sword, but the tongue of the wise brings healing.
King Solomon's words in the book of Proverbs are sometimes so simple, but yet they aren't so simple to live by. A lot of proverbs sound a lot like Chinese fortunes. There is one big difference between the two: fortune cookies are made by a manufacturing company in Brooklyn, NY called Won Ton Foods, while the Word of God is the package that we find God's promises and instructions in. A "writer" is paid to sit in an office and think up fortunes for the little slips of paper we find in the cookies we get at Chinese and Japanese restaurants. Yes, it may be uplifting to read a fortune that says, "you will soon receive large sums of money", or, "you will live a long, healthy life", but that slip of paper doesn't mean that it is going to happen. The proverbs delivered through Solomon give us instruction pertaining to every conceivable area of human life. There is comparison between a worldly way of living and a Godly perspective in which we mold and shape our lives.
This week, I am going to make efforts to lengthen my fuse, meaning that I will try to be more patient and understanding to those I come in contact with. This is especially hard when working with apathetic teenagers, but there are no exceptions to the instruction that God has placed before us in His word. I am also going to watch what I say to others. No, I don't struggle with profanity or cursing, but I could do so much better by lifting others up by offering kind comments and advice.
Will you live by fortunes or proverbs?
