Week 7 begins tomorrow...
Titus 3: 3-7
3 At one time we too were foolish, disobedient, deceived and enslaved by all kinds of passions and pleasures. We lived in malice and envy, being hated and hating one another. 4 But when the kindness and love of God our Savior appeared, 5 he saved us, not because of righteous thing we had done, but because of his mercy. He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit, 6 whom he poured out on us generously through Jesus Christ our Savior, 7 so that, having been justified by his grace, we might become hairs having the hope of eternal life...
Believing is the only way we can benefit from the generous gift that God gave us through his son. We are dirty. My spirit is filthy. God doesn't tell me in His word that I should clean myself up or that I am capable of wiping clean my transgressions. No, He makes it possible for us to be cleansed through this gracious gift. I am not perfect, nor am I expected to be perfect.
God wants us to believe and to recognize that we cannot be cleaned and live a spiritually strong life on our own. Our sin builds walls between God and us. Our sin separates and distances us from God. Our sin leads to death...sometimes physically, always spiritually. Trusting in God, we find Life. Trusting ourselves, we find death.
Now, if we believe in God and his sacrifice through His son...we believe the Word, because the Word is Christ. Our faith in this relationship that is founded in the bible, shouldn't have us sitting idle and stationary. We should be putting it into action and sharing it with a world that is dying. Where else can you find such an amazing gift as the one found in this passage in Titus? Nowhere. Money can't buy you eternal life. Fancy houses and cars cannot wash away your mistakes.
Commit to it...
