Ephesians 5:1-2
1 Be imitators of God, therefore, as dearly loved children 2 and live a life of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.
What was your favorite halloween costume growing up as a kid (or even as an adult, as some still dress up)? This past halloween, I was forced to wear a costume, so I cut Mickey Mantle's face out of a magazine and put it over mine. Cheapest halloween costume ever...
As kids we imagine ourselves as astronauts, professional athletes, actors, soldiers, cowboys, ballerinas, and so forth. As an adult now, I still imagine myself playing sports like certain athletes. Even at 25, I still have role models...most likely you do as well. Here is where I am going with this:
1) We are to imitate God, with the love and affection that Christ shows towards us.
2) If we live in this manner, we will become excellent role models for those around us.
Christ was not boastful in himself. He didn't seek to have his name in shiny lights and pasted all over billboards. He doesn't ask for salary raises or 4 year contracts. He would give up his sports car to anybody who needed it. His mission was and is to love. We are to imitate that within our own lives. Others need to know why we are humble, gentle, sacrificial, and loving. If they don't see that in us, then there won't be any curiosity.
As a teacher, I have a great opportunity to turn things around in the youth in our community. If I present myself to them in a manner that is pleasing to God and reflective of Christ's love, then lives can be touched. This calling is not to pretend to be like Christ...but to live our lives in a Christ-like way.
Imitate Greatness...
