Jonah 2:1-6a
1 From inside the fish Jonah prayed to the Lord his God. 2 He said: "In my distress I called to the Lord. and he answered me. From the depths of the grave I called for help, and you listened to my cry. 3 You hurled me into the deep, into the very heart of the seas, and the currents swirled about me; all your waves and breakers swept over me. 4 I said, 'I have been banished from your sight; yet I will look again toward your holy temple.' 5 The engulfing waters threatened me, the deep surrounded me; seaweed was wrapped around my head. 6 To the roots of the mountains I sank down; the earth beneath barred me in forever...
So, Jonah was cast overboard into the waters. We know from reading that as soon as Jonah was thrown into the water, the seas and storm was calmed for the sailors he was with. God held up His end of the deal. However, being tossed into the middle of the ocean is not a very good situation to be in. Jonah slowly dropped into the waters, deeper and deeper. If you've ever tried to hold your breath underwater for an extended amount of time, you know it can get pretty scary. As the currents tossed him around and the waves crashed over him, he thought that this was it. Jonah said, from the depths of the grave he called for help. That is a pretty low and desperate place, but the beautiful thing is that God listened to his cry. Not only did He listen to his cry, but He acted in mercy and grace by saving his life.
Jonah 1:17
17 But the Lord provided a great fish to swallow Jonah, and Jonah was inside the fish three days and three nights.
You probably thought I forgot about this very important verse. God provided a great fish to swallow Jonah. In our most desperate times, God provides for his people. People who struggle due to unemployment will be provided for as long as they have faith in God and act on that faith. Think about the homeless man with the "golden voice". God provided for him. In interviews, he thanked the Lord numerous times and spoke of how without God he couldn't have shaken the habits that was ruining his life. People who struggle with drugs, alcohol, lust, greed, malice, anger, and many other issues can turn it all around. God may not send you a horse on the interstate when you car breaks down, but you may be able to use that cell phone that HE has provided for you. God provides for His people everyday. Whether it be the small things like having power in your house or food on the table, or big things like landing a steady job or even being swallowed by a whale when you are drowning in the ocean.
Pay more attention to the blessing and care that God provides for you...
Also, if I missed anything, this little girl should take care of it:
