January 01 - Change

2011 is upon us. Some have made resolutions. I have decided to not to make resolutions, but to make changes. In a recent bible study I came across a very familiar verse that I have heard my entire life. That verse is Mark 12:30, "Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength". In 2010 I was so hot and cold. My walk with God was like a see-saw. Our relationship was up and next thing I knew, it was back down. This is my effort to get closer to God. I invite you to join me...

How this works: for every week a rep is added to push-ups and sit-ups. A minute is also added to the run for that day. By the last week of 2011, we should be doing 53 push-ups, 53 sit-ups, and a 53 minute run. The great thing about this plan is, for some who have been inactive or struggle with exercises, this is a great way to start. January and February provide a great foundation and starting point. My hope and my desire is to have a closer walk with Christ while becoming more physically strong. Even if you can't run, try to walk or bike. If you don't have a relationship with Christ at this point, please join me anyway.

Video note: my wife and I returned from Hilton Head today. Two nights ago I was hit hard with a huge head cold and a nasty cough. Since then I have been pumping cold meds through my system. For the next few days I may seem a little bit loopy. Nonetheless, let's go...

When Jesus was asked of which commandment was the greatest, He put it in such simple terms a child could understand it. The most important commandment is to love your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.

Jesus then went on to mention the second greatest commandment: (31) Love your neighbor as yourself. Love is such a huge part of God's word. The greatest (true) story is how God sacrificed His son to save you and me. No wonder the Word is called the Good News...

I can recall, not loving different people in 2010. This isn't the same love that I have for my wife, or the same love that I have for our cat that is prone to Urinary Tract Infections. I'm talking about a general love that shows and is evident to everyone we come in contact with that says: I care for you. Even if someone   is gossiping about you. Love them. Even if someone breaks your eyeglasses. Love them. Even if someone sitting next to you in class or at the airport is stinky and it seems they haven't brushed their teeth or hair in two weeks. Love them. How will the world know this Love that God delivered to us, if we hide it away and shun those we come in contact with? When we love everyone, we love God. He created us all. No matter our race. No matter our height. No matter our sexual orientation, believe it or not. If you're in a need for change like I am, let's get to work...
