John 14:23-24
23 Jesus replied, "If anyone loves me he will obey my teaching. My father will love him, and we will come to him and make our home with him." 24 He who does not love me will not obey my teaching. These words you hear are not my own; they belong to the Father who sent me.
Jesus' words are simple and straight from the heart. It makes me think of the quote, "There are those that do and there are those that don't." What's even more beautiful about this phrase is that it is spoken of Jesus, but it originates from the Father. This is a God-breathed message to not just his people, but to the entire world.
It's as simple as:
If you love Christ (to truly have compassion and desire to be of him) then you will live your life according to the gospel. This doesn't give us any right to pick and choose what to live by...it is a relationship and action of love that requires commitment in entirety.
If you don't love Christ (no interest or belief in him or his righteousness) then you will live by the world's standards. You cannot serve to masters...
To live by the word would make it necessary to know the word...
